Vector Fabric

What's it for ?

Generates a procedural woven / knitted fabric — threads, gaps, weave and fibers — and gives you everything to make a texture look like real cloth: a distorted UV to warp patterns onto the weave, plus height, mask, random and welt maps to drive bump, coloring and relief. Great for clothing, upholstery, canvas, carpets…

Tip

Plug UV into a texture's Vector input to bend it along the threads, and Height into a Bump for instant woven relief. Switch Type between Canevas (flat woven cloth) and Jersey (stretchy knit).

Examples

Parameters

Type

  • Canevas — a woven fabric (warp + weft threads crossing), like canvas, linen or cotton. Shows the Canevas settings.
  • Jersey — a knitted fabric (interlocking loops), stretchy like a t-shirt. Shows the Jersey settings.

Common settings

  • Division — overall resolution of the weave (higher = finer, denser threads).
  • Fuzziness — softness of the thread edges (0 = crisp, higher = fuzzy / hairy).
  • Distortion — irregular warping of the weave, for a hand-made, less perfect look.
  • Fibers — amount of fine fiber detail inside each thread.

Canevas settings

  • Threads 1 / Threads 2 — number of threads in each direction (warp and weft).
  • Gaps 1 / Gaps 2 — spacing between threads in each direction (bigger gaps = looser, more open weave).
  • Errors — random weaving mistakes (skipped / misaligned threads) for realism.

Jersey settings

  • Shear — slant of the knit loops.
  • Thickness — thickness of the yarn / loops.

Inputs

  • Mapping — UV / mapping input; falls back to the default UV when unplugged.

Outputs

  • UV — the fabric-distorted vector; plug it into a texture's Vector input to warp it onto the weave.
  • Height — relief of the weave; feed a Bump (or displacement) for woven depth.
  • Mask — where the threads are vs the gaps (use it to blend cloth with a background, or to color the gaps).
  • Random — a per-thread random value; drive slight color variation between threads.
  • Welt — the raised ridges of the weave; handy for extra highlights / specular breakup.
